AIS, short for Automotive Industry Standard, are the regulations released by the Automotive
Industry Standard Committee (AISC) in collaboration with the Ministry of Road Transportation and
Highways (MoRTH).
These guidelines were created with the intention of both increasing road safety and also creating
an intelligent transportation system. So what exactly are these guidelines that commercial vehicles
have to follow? The regulations target several different aspects that go into the GPS tracking industry.
AIS 140: This is the most relevant standard for commercial vehicles. It mandates the use of government-approved GPS
tracking devices with features like panic buttons, real-time location tracking, and integration with emergency response
systems. Device Certification: Only AIS 140-certified devices from authorized vendors are allowed for installation in public
transport and commercial vehicles.Panic Button Integration: Passenger-carrying vehicles must include emergency alert systems for increased passenger safety.
Vehicle Health Monitoring: Some guidelines extend into diagnostics and vehicle health checks to ensure vehicles are roadworthy. Following AIS guidelines not only ensures compliance but also boosts customer trust, improves operational transparency, and enhances fleet efficiency.
Transmission intervals are configurable from 10 seconds to 60 minutes. The default setting is 10 seconds when in motion and only Heartbeat packet when stationary. You can adjust these settings through our web platform or mobile app or using sms command.
All Markon GPS tracking devices come with a 1-year limited warranty covering manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover physical damage, water damage (beyond the rated IP specification), or improper installation.
Firmware updates can be performed through our desktop utility or over-the-air (OTA) when connected to power. You'll receive a notification in the Markon app when updates are available. Always ensure your device has at least 50% battery before updating.
